Who is Syd? & why does he get his own section on ye olde Flat Earth Web Site? Syd is a mighty fine canine, the bestest of pals & veteran of many a transcontinental road trips. He shares with us what is in his CD player, VCR and the floor next to his doggie bed.
Music Music Music.
Vulgar Boatmen - Wide Awake http://www.nonostalgia.com is a 20 track collection of the best of the Boatmen. Brilliant music from a brilliant band. Thank God for the Vulgar Boatmen. Seeing them play live is one of the best musical experiences a person can have.
The Innocence Mission - Befriended http://www.theinnocencemission.com More lovely, quiet, mystical music from a husband & wife Don & Karin Peris of PA. I love this band, they never dissapoint me. I've seen them twice & see them later this week.
Ben Folds Live - If you can't go see Ben play solo then get this record. It isn't as fun but listening to it makes you wish you were there. He's fun solo, he's fun with a band & he's one heck of a musician.
Some Girls - Feel It http://www.some-girls.com Freda of the Mysteries of Life, Heidi of The Pieces & Julianna Hatfield to top it off. I love this record. It is great fun wrapped in simple, catchy pop songs. Not too deep, just right for a beautiful fall day road trip. They are great fun live as well.

Books Books Books
Blue Shoe by Annie Dillard - Annie's a crazy person & a very talented writer. Put that together & you get a great story. I can never tell how much is autobiagraphical, how much is about friends of hers & how much is made up. I love trying to guess that. Other great books by her include: Travelling Mercies & Bird by Bird.
Life of Pi by Yann Matel - A great story of a boy & a tiger lost at sea in a life boat for an obnoxiously long time. Brilliant, engaging, potentially life changing & a very quick read.
The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster - A great kid's book. I didn't know it was a kid's book but I loved it anyway. About a boy overcoming boredom, finding himself & finding a life in the process. Very well written, very quick read.
Let Justice Roll Down by John Perkins - A very inspiring book about a bootlegger's son from Mississippi who got out of racist Mississippi but then came back to make a difference. & he is still making a difference in Mississippi today.
Movies, Movies, Movies
Matrix Revolutions - Let's just say it was better than my low expectations. I'm just waiting for the next sequal.
Pirates of the Caribbean - Who knew? I loved it. Johnny Depp made the movie even though we didn't understand a third of what he said. Pirates, the Caribbean, goofy British colonialists, a dwarf & demons! It sounds crazy but it's actually a lot of fun.
